The Washington State Career & Technical Student Organizations (CTSO’s), Washington Association of Career & Technical Education, OSPI Career & Technical Education Staff invite Career & Technical Education Students and their teachers to attend the 3rd Annual CTE Student Leadership Civic Engagement Day at the State Capital. This unique opportunity allows student leaders from across the State of Washington to learn about state government and showcase CTE Programs while developing their leadership skills.
The day will begin with a training session in the Performing Arts Center at North Thurston High School, 600 Sleater Kinney Rd NE, Olympia, featuring Superintendent of Public Instruction Randy Dorn, members of the State Legislature, and training for students. The training will focus on the legislative process, how to interact with members of the State Legislature, and issues critical to CTE. Throughout the day student displays on the 3rd and 4th Floor Mezzanines of the Capital building, 215 Sid Snyder Ave SW, Olympia, WA 98501, will showcase CTE Programs from around the state as well as the State CTSO’s. Student participants are encouraged to schedule appointments and meet with their Senators and Representatives.
The goals of the event are to:
- Educate Students about the legislative process and the importance of civic engagement.
- Showcase CTE Student Leaders and Programs.
- Facilitate positive student interactions with their elected officials.
- Provide a collaborative environment for teachers to share best practices in CTE Student Leadership.

9:45 Booth Setup Capital Rotunda
10:00-3:00 Displays open to public Capital Rotunda
10:00-3:00 Meet with Legislators/ Tour the Campus Capital Campus
